Green Oil Plantations sought investment to fund the establishment of a Millettia tree plantation in Australia. It was proposed that the Milletia trees’ oil would be harvested after two years of growth and sold primarily as bio fuel. The business model relied on initial forecasts for the plantation that predicated high oil yields within the first two years. This did not materialise.
Green Oil Plantations went into administration in 2013. Before going into administration, however, Green Oil Plantations successfully raised funds from a large number of UK-based investors to fund the establishment of the Australian plantation. The investment was high risk and was an unregulated investment product. As such it was entirely unsuitable for ordinary retail investors. Many of our clients transferred their pensions into a SIPP before investing or used their own cash reserves to invest into Green Oil Plantations.
